Netflix and Sony Pictures Television have teamed up to bring to life “The Corps,” an adaptation of the best-selling autobiography “The Pink Marine” by Greg Cope White. ‘The Corps’ is a working title, but it might stick considering how the title has already triggered some serious anticipation among the fans of drama. News of the series first surfaced in March. Netflix was supposed to wrap productions for the show in September, eyeing a mid 2024 release. But with WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes in place, production has come to an indefinite halt.
There are some big names behind the scenes. The project is being led by Andy Parker, known for his work titles like Tales of the CIty and Imposters. Parker is the creator and co-writer of the series. The author of the original book, Greg Cope White will be co-writing the screenplay and act as one of the producers. The first episode of the series is being directed by Peter Hoar who has The Last of Us and The Umbrella Academy to his credit.

“The Pink Marine”, the book behind the series, deals with the story of a teen Greg Cope White who joins the Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina almost on a whim. Struggling with his own sexuality and non-masculine outlook, the bootcamp changes his life. He realizes the true meaning of becoming a marine and a man.
In the series, Miles Heizer plays Cameron Cope, a charming underdog who, as a gay and bullied teenager, seeks to redefine his identity. Living in a tumultuous home environment with a narcissistic mother, Cameron impulsively enlists in the Marines alongside his straight best friend, hoping it will make him a “real man.” Vera Farmiga plays Barbara Cope, Cameron’s mother.
“The Corps” promises to be a profound and evocative series. Netflix has confirmed 10 episodes but when or how they will be released we do not know.
