Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated April 13), according to Billboard.
Queen Bey’s album dropped on March 29 and sold 407,000 album-equivalent units in the United States. This is the eighth time Beyoncé has come in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
By earning 407,000 units, Cowboy Carter has attained the biggest week for an album in 2024 and the largest since Taylor Swift dropped 1989 (Taylor’s version), which received success with 1.653 million units on November 11, 2023.
Cowboy Carter also marks the biggest week for Beyoncé since she dropped Lemonade in 2016, which debuted at No. 1 with 653,000 units. Therefore, it has now become Beyoncé’s biggest streaming week so far.
Moreover, Cowboy Carter has secured a remarkable spot on many Billboard charts, such as Top Country Albums, Americana/Folk Albums, and Top Album Sales.
Adding to the overall success and pride, it is interesting to note that Beyoncé has become the first black woman to top the Top Country Albums chart since the list was created in 1964.
Cowboy Carter’s success is also the biggest for a country album since Taylor Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), which debuted in July 2023 at No. 1 with 716,000 units.
In February of this year, the singer’s ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ made her the first black woman to top Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart.
The newly released 27-track album includes many notable collaborations, including Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Dolly Parton, Willie Jones, Brittney Spencer, and Willie Nelson.
The American singer-songwriter has previously ranked first on the Billboard 200 albums chart for Dangerously In Love (2003), B’Day (2006), I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008), 4 (2011), Beyoncé (2013), Lemonade (2016), and Renaissance (2022).
