Big Update On ‘Money Heist’ Spinoff, ‘Berlin’ To Return On Netflix

Netflix announced on Monday that the Money Heist spinoff series Berlin will be returning to the platform for a second season. Pedro Alonso will reprise his role as the iconic character of Berlin. In addition, the new season is expected to have a fresh storyline as it acknowledges the criticism faced by the title in its first installment.

The streaming giant also shared a photo of the cast for season 2. It stated that the entire gang from the first season would return for the second season of Berlin. Netflix stated,

Alongside him, his entire gang returns: Michelle Jenner (Isabel), who plays Keila, an expert in electronic engineering; Tristán Ulloa (Fariña) is Damián, a philanthropic professor and Berlin’s confidant; Begoña Vargas (Welcome to Eden) is Cameron, a kamikaze who always lives on the edge; Julio Peña Fernández (Through My Window) plays Roi, Berlin’s faithful squire; and Joel Sánchez brings Bruce to life, the relentless man of action in the gang.

During its premiere week, BERLIN was the most-watched series globally and reached the Top 10 in 91 countries. Since then, it has remained in the Top 10 for 7 consecutive weeks in non-English TV, amassing 348 million hours viewed and 53 million total views,

Netflix said.

The series is now ranked at number 9 among the most-watched non-English language series in the history of Netflix.

Created by Álex Pina, the show is produced by his company, Vancouver Media. Moreover, the production company is currently working on El Refugio Atómico (The Fallout Shelter) for Netflix. The series is set as the third world war is about to happen. In the story, a group of multimillionaires get shelter in a bunker.

While it is confirmed that the show is coming back, the fans will need to wait some more time. The press release by Netflix states,

The filming of the second season of BERLIN, created by Álex Pina (La casa de papel, Sky Rojo) and Esther Martínez Lobato (La casa de papel, Sky Rojo), will begin in 2025.

It could be possible that, apart from the production team, the star cast also might have prior commitments for 2024. Therefore, we cannot expect to get the second season of Berlin until at least mid-to-late 2025. Besides, it could extend until 2026.‘Berlin’ focuses on the events of Berlin’s life before he got involved in the robbery of the Royal Mint of Spain. Money Heist ended in 2021 and was counted as Netflix’s most popular international title of all time.
