As Deadpool & Wolverine is predicted to be a huge box office success ahead of its July 26 release, the film’s director, Shawn Levy, has become the best choice for directing another Marvel Studios picture. While he is currently busy with Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, he is being eyed by Marvel for another blockbuster.
While the movie is still in its very early stages, sources suggest that Levy is considering the offer and that the studio handed over the script of the film to him last week. However, Marvel Studios is also considering some other options, considering that Levy had previously turned down the offer. Reportedly, he was approached in mid-March, but due to scheduling conflicts, he didn’t agree to it.
Apart from Deadpool & Wolverine, he also has director and executive producer duties for Netflix’s hit series, Stranger Things. This implies that Levy’s schedule is fully packed until next year. At first, this timeline did not align with Marvel’s plans for Avengers 5, but reports say that the studio has pushed the film back. This has given Levy another chance to direct the MCU’s highly anticipated movie.
Meanwhile, the fact that Marvel has approached him again shows how desperately it wishes to work with him again, given how Deadpool & Wolverine is a major milestone for both parties.
The latest script is written by Loki creator Michael Waldron. Initially, the film was named “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” but it all changed after Jonathan Majors, who was set to star as Kang the Conqueror, was convicted of assault and harassment of his ex-girlfriend.
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton was set to helm the film at first. However, he parted ways with Marvel Studios in November 2023. The presently untitled film is slated for release on May 1, 2026.
