“Death and Other Details” Will Not Return For A Second Season On Hulu

Hulu’s murder mystery drama “Death and Other Details” has been unfortunately canceled on the network after a ten-episode first season, Variety confirmed. The Mandy Patinkin and Violett Beane-starring show saw the final episode of its debut season less than a month ago.

Despite its decent critical review, the Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams-written series could not secure its spot in Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 streaming ratings.

Patinkin’s character, Rufus Cotesworth, used to be “the world’s greatest detective.” Joining him was Beane as his protégée, Imogene Scott. The duo embarks on a journey to solve a murder mystery. It is not as simple as it seems.

The murder occurs in a lavish ocean liner packed with rich and influential individuals. As the investigation goes on, the detectives encounter a powerful and dangerous foe, Victor Sams, who has a feud with the wealthy people on board.

“Death and Other Details” has many other actors in crucial roles, including Lauren Patten, Rahul Kohli, Angela Zhou, Hugo Diego Garcia, Pardis Saremi, and Linda Emond, with Jayne Atkinson in a recurring role.

Meanwhile, the makers of the show had earlier shared their desire for a second season after the premiere of the final episode of the first installment. While talking with TheWrap, they hinted that the second season would focus on Violett Beane’s Imogene Scott as the show’s lead.

Heidi Cole McAdams said,

I don’t think every season of the show is going to feel like a new Agatha Christie reset. We were using that because that’s the world that Rufus Cotesworth comes from. If we’re lucky enough to make more, we’ll be different every year, I think… There will certainly be more murder if we are so lucky to be able to make more.

Series co-creator Mike Weiss also said,

We’ve been talking about what would it look like in Season 2 if we were inspired by Sherlock Holmes?
