‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ Steals The Limelight At The Cannes Film Festival

George Miller’s upcoming film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga earned a positive reception at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. The movie, which features Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy, received a seven-minute long-standing ovation from the viewers. It will be released in theatres on May 24, 2024.

Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth’s highly anticipated film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga made the whole Cannes Film Festival energetic. George Miller’s movie got a considerably positive reaction at the event. Notably, it is the fifth part of the franchise. The audience present at the Grand Lumiere Theatre gave the film more than 7 minutes long standing ovation.

Furiosa is a film by Warner Bros. that is set for theatrical release on May 24. The last time we saw an update in the franchise was nine years ago. Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth addition, featured Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.

The lead actor of the apocalyptic franchise, Hemsworth, was seen getting emotional. Meanwhile, Taylor-Joy was seen sending flying kisses to the fans over the camera.

She will play the titular lead, while Hemsworth portrays warlord Dementus. If we go back to the origin story, it will become clearer with the synopsis of the film. The synopsis states,

As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the wasteland, they encounter the citadel presided over by Immortan Joe. The two tyrants wage war for dominance, and Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

In an interview with Deadline, Anna said,

By nature, of how arduous the shooting schedule was, I was very often alone and (Furiosa’s) a character that’s very much in her head and she’s very, very quiet, so it felt everything around me that pushed that sense of isolation.

For the unversed, the script for this film was penned long before even Fury Road was released. Miller aimed to bring back the deeper personalities of Furiosa. Moreover, looking at the response the film received at Cannes, we expect it to drive huge profits on its gigantic budget of $168 million. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be out on May 24.
