American actress Julia Butters, known for her roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Fabelmans, might join the second part of Freaky Friday on Disney. As per a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Disney confirmed the much-awaited sequel last year and revealed in March that Nisha Ganatra is set to direct the film.

Even though Disney has not yet confirmed the official star cast for the movie, fans have been expecting the actors from the original film, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, to make a comeback.

Freaky Friday producer Andrew Gunn is set to produce the movie along with ex-Walt Disney Pictures executive Kristin Burr.

In a 2023 interview with The New York Times, Curtis and Lohan talked about a potential sequel. Curtis said, As I went around the world with “Halloween Ends,” people wanted to know if there was going to be another “Freaky Friday.” Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”

Adding to fans’ excitement, Lohan said, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

Curtis shared a photo with Lohan on Instagram and tagged Disney in the caption. She added,

Freaky Friday, which was released in August 2003, earned critical acclaim and is considered one of the cult classics of Hollywood. It earned $160.8 million worldwide. Notably, it was a remake of a 1977 film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster in the lead roles. Gary Nelson directed the fantasy-comedy film, which was based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel of the same name.
