The waiting period was not very long for the highest-grossing franchise, Minions. Following a fresh and successful debut of its franchise sequel, Despicable Me 4, the creators have now announced Minions 3 which is set to make its debut in June 2027.
The franchise, penned by Brian Lynch, the forthcoming sequel, Minions will be directed by Pierre Coffin, who has also worked for Despicable Me/ Minions. Additionally, Pierre has also worked as a voice artist for Minions, since its debut in 2010.
Produced by Illumination founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan, Minions 3 is executively produced by The Super Mario Bros Movie.
Almost a decade after its creation, Minions has ranked itself among the highest-grossing films with a net estimated revenue of more than $5 billion; the estimations include both Despicable Me, and its prequel, Minions.

An acclaimed franchise, it includes the most popular blockbuster Despicable Me 2, which was nominated for Oscars, and Despicable Me 3, which has earned more than $1 billion.
Minions: The Rise Of Gru, was one of its other highest-grossing sequels. Making its debut in 2022, the series dominated the box office with a worldwide collection of $230 million.
The animation movies’ massive success was also analysed by a media critic, Peter Deburge. In an editorial for Variety, Deburge wrote, “Less than a year after dual writers’ and actors’ strikes shut down Hollywood, kid-friendly cartoons are propping up the theatrical box office in a big way. Now, my friend (and many like him) may look right past these movies, preferring ambitious grown-up sagas like “Furiosa” and “Horizon.” But in summer without a “Barbenheimer” — which, let’s face it, is every summer except 2023 — these animated movies are keeping the popcorn flowing … and helping to justify the megaplexes’ outrageous AC bills.”
