Netflix’s 'Department Q' Under Production? Here’s What We Know

Department Q is an upcoming Netflix series, with Scott Frank as its showrunner. This eight-part television series will be an adaptation of Nordic noir crime novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. Interestingly, the series adaptation for the title has been in development for the last ten years. Moreover, it was revealed in 2020 that Left Bank Pictures, owned by Sony, would be the producer of Department Q.

The series creator, Scott Frank, has previously worked on two Netflix originals, Godless and The Queen’s Gambit. Besides, his latest work, Monsieur Spade, is airing on AMC. The production banner, Left Bank Pictures, has its name associated with many Netflix original projects like The Crown, White Lines, and Behind Her Eyes.

What is the plot of Department Q?

Department Q is an adaptation of the noir-thriller novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen of the same name. The first book in the Department Q series is named The Keeper of Lost Causes. It is expected that this part will serve as the source material for the Department Q’s series adaptation’s first season.

This crime series will revolve around Carl Morck, an ex-detective in Edinburgh. This leading detective undergoes a life-altering twist when a brutal accident leaves his partner paralyzed. When he resumes his duties, the establishment of Department Q falls under his responsibility. Later, many amazing detectives join this cold-case department.

Viewers can expect to see some of the famous faces in the Department Qstar cast, along with some new actors. The series features Matthew Goode as Carl Morck. Other stars are Chloe Pirrie, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Kelly Macdonald, Mark Bonnar, Jamie Sives, Shirley Henderson, and Kate Dickie.
