American rapper, Cameron Jibril Thomaz, known by his stage name, Wiz Khalifa, was prosecuted in Romania over charges of illegal drug prosecution. Following the incident this weekend, Wiz later apologised to his fans on social media.
The news was released via a press release from the Romanian anti-organised crime prosecutors DIICOT, which read, “During a recital held during a music festival held in the Costinești resort, Constanța county, [Khalifa] possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (onstage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette.”
The press release added, “We make it clear that, during the entire criminal process, the investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure and the presumption of innocence.”

In Romania, the recreational use of Cannabis has been banned. Wiz Khalifa visited the country for his performance at the festival, Beach! Please. A video, from the event, later surfaced online, where the musician was seen arrested by the prosecutors. While he was handheld on the pretext of illegal drug possession, he was later taken into custody and was severely questioned about the addiction. After a short period, the rapper was released from custody.
Following the incident, the rapper took to X and addressed his fans with a Tweet that read, “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”
Initially the arrest, Wiz Khalifa had often made headlines for his open use of Cannabis in both, his personal and professional life. In early 2024, he attracted media attention after he shared how under the influence of Cannabis, he went on to attend his son’s school event. He recalled the incident in the Call Her Daddy Podcast.
