Expressing his opinions in a recent interview, Ryan Reynolds said that he was pleasantly surprised by Disney. This is because the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ distributor allowed the R-Rating on the upcoming film.
Notably, the movie, which is set to hit theaters on July 26, is the first movie by Disney since it acquired Fox. The previous two installments were distributed under Fox Studios, with both having an R-rating.
Considering Disney’s approach to making family-friendly content, Deadpool fans were worried about the movie’s future. However, in a pleasing turn of events, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was given the green light to proceed with the foul-mouthed humor.
On May 20, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy joined Fandango’s Jacqueline Coley to share glimpses of their highly anticipated movie. During the interview, Reynolds said,
I hope this doesn’t sound condescending, I’m really proud of them for doing this.
It’s a huge step for them, it adds a whole color to this kaleidoscopic wheel that is that company and the different people that they have been entertaining for forever,
I was surprised though that they let us go as Hard R… but very grateful. I mean there’s no other way to do it.
Ryan asserted that they did not intend to exploit the R-rating and intentionally add the explicit stuff. But they enjoy the freedom given to them in a world where anything is possible. Ryan said that he felt like,
that was the most full-throated version of Wolverine or Logan that we’ve ever seen as well.
Director Shawn Levy also agreed to whatever Ryan said. He said,
We were clear from the get-go… If the three of us are going to do this, we’ve got to be truthful to the tone of a Deadpool movie. And that means we’re not softening the edges, we’re going to be audacious and funny and edgy.
Interestingly, the upcoming movie will treat the audience to a crossover with Hugh Jackman’s character from the X-Men series.
