Scarlett Johansson Rejoins Jonathan Glazer For Prada Ad

Scarlett Johansson has teamed up with British director Jonathan Glazer again after the 2013 science fiction film ‘Under the Skin.’

The duo has joined hands to promote the Galleria bag collection of Italian fashion house Prada.

The advertisement, directed by Jonathan Glazer, first shows Johansson trying to speak the lines written by Shakespeare. The lines are from Antony and Cleopatra and Macbeth.

The advertisement was filmed in New York with Vogue Italia’s creative director, Ferdinando Verderi. Interestingly, this is Glazer’s first video after his controversial acceptance speech at this year’s Oscar ceremony.

He was misinterpreted for his acceptance speech and was trolled by various famous Hollywood personalities. Glazer won an Oscar for Best International Film at the 2024 Academy Awards for his movie ‘The Zone of Interest.’

Despite being Jewish, Glazer took a dig at the Jewish people who are supporting Israel’s stand on the ongoing war. He expressed his sympathy for the situation of Palestinians in Gaza.

Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people,

Whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?

These remarks by the director have led to an open letter criticizing his speech from 1,000 Jewish Hollywood personalities. His words, however, have also received support from some Hollywood stars.

Glazer and Johansson’s Under the Skin was critically acclaimed. It secured a spot on the BBC’s 100 Greatest Films of the 21st Century list. However, it was considered a box-office failure.

Other notable credits for Glazer include the 2000 film Sexy Beast and the 2004 movie Birth, starring Nicole Kidman.
