X Factor fame Lucy Spraggan has announced her engagement to her long-time girlfriend Emilia Smith. She announced on Instagram the couple’s plans to get married in June.
The 32-year-old English singer and songwriter made her appearance in 2012 for the reality show and earned significant and quick fame among the audience.
By posting numerous clicks with her ring on her account, Lucy captioned,
Not only this, but she will walk down the aisle with X Factor creator Simon Cowell.
Lucy and Simon became friends even after she revealed that her experience on X Factor was no less than “an abusive relationship.”
Three weeks into the reality show, in 2012, Lucy had to drop out because she was raped. Following the incident, a hotel porter was found guilty in 2013 and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.
Acknowledging her abrupt departure from the show, the show’s team reported her to be suffering from illness.
When Lucy decided to write her own book and address the insensitivity she faced during the show, she got a call from Simon. While Spraggan wanted to express her disappointment and anger, Simon said,
Lucy, before you or I say anything else, the first thing I need to tell you is that I am sorry.
Lucy said,
It makes me emotional because no-one else said sorry. And all it took was this one man to treat me like a human being, 11 years later.
Later, when she asked him if he would walk her down the aisle and give her away, Cowell replied,
I’d absolutely love to. It would be an honour.
