The five-day UK music festival, Glastonbury, has sent an invitation to the Korean band Seventeen to headline its 2024 editions, making history for the K-Pop group, as reported by a media house.
Before the planned 2024 debut of Seventeen, no K-pop band had been selected to perform at Glastonbury’s iconic event and its iconic stage. The yearly music festival was started in 1970 and was entirely dominated by the Western music industry.
The K-pop band is set to join other Western musicians, including Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA, LCD Soundsystem, and PJ Harvey, among others. Meanwhile, the much sought event is going to take place between 26 to June 30, 2024 and is expected to be attended by more than 200,000 festival goers.
Following the Glastonbury event, the band is planned to play at the Lollapalooza festival which takes place in Berlin in September 2024.
K-pop attending a European festival is one of the other instances where the K-pop group has shown its dominance in the world. In addition to it, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) released a statement wherein it said four out of 2023’s 10 best selling acts hailed from South Korea.
