Star Trek Actress Barbara Baldavin Passes Away At 85

Actress Barbara Baldavin, who appeared in the original Star Trek for three episodes, died at the age of 85. She was also a regular cast member in the medical drama series ‘Medical Center.’ She played the role of Nurse Holmby in the show. 

Meanwhile, Baldavin also worked as a casting director for many shows.

The actress’s son, Marc D’Agosta, confirmed to THR. He shared that Baldavin died on Sunday at her home in Manhattan Beach, California, due to congestive heart failure. 

She was renowned for playing two roles in ‘Star Trek: The Original Series.’ In the first season, she appeared in the 14th and 15th episodes. Her role was quite significant, as she portrayed the character of Officer Angela Martine. 

In her first episode, Starfleet came under a Romulan attack during her wedding to Robert Tomilson. Moreover, she also appeared in the 24th episode of the third season. It was the series finale where Baldavin played the communications officer Lieutenant Lisa.

It is interesting to know that she met her husband on the sets of the series. Joseph D’Agosta was the casting director for Star Trek. The show, however, was canceled just after airing for three seasons. Later, it garnered a dedicated fan base and became the massive franchise that we know of now.

After her six-year-long role as Nurse Holmby in ‘Medical Center,’ she made guest appearances in many shows. 

They include Adam-12, Columbo, McMillan & Wife, Baretta, Charlie’s Angels, Fantasy Island, Barnaby Jones, Quincy M.E.,$, Mannix, and Skeeter.

As a casting director, she worked in TV shows as well. They are Strike Force, Finder of Lost Loves, and Matt Houston. Meanwhile, she also worked as the casting director for various films, including Satan’s Princess and Fallen Arches.
