Filmmaker and writer James Gunn has shared the first official look of the upcoming Superman film. It features David Corenswet in the iconic Superman suit. The movie releases in theaters on July 11, 2025.
‘Superman’ writer-director James Gunn shared the first look of David Corenswet as the new Superman on May 6. Even though it is hidden, we can assure you that the famous red underwear is not going anywhere. David Corenswet’s Superman will wear it, even though it was not added to the DC Extended Universe Superman’s suit.
The image was shared by James Gunn on his Instagram account with the caption,
Meanwhile, fans were overwhelmed looking at the red trunks and expressed their excitement. One said, “HE’S GOT THE TRUNKS!”
A second user commented,
Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed lol I turned my brightness all the way up and checked comments to see if anyone else noticed.
Corenswet has played lead roles in the Netflix series created by Ryan Murphy, namely The Politician (2019–2020) and Hollywood (2020). Now, with his new role as Superman, he is expected to receive instant fame.
Nonetheless, there are more of Hollywood’s favorites starring in the highly anticipated movie. Lois Lane and Lex Luthor will be played by Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Holt, respectively. Other cast members are Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer), and Wendell Pierce (Daily Planet editor Perry White).
Not many people have gotten the chance to play the iconic Superman in a movie.
Those lucky men, other than David Corenswet, are Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006) and Henry Cavill (2013-2022).
Moreover, the first official look indicated something like an alien invasion in the background. The Man of Steel is seen sitting near the window, with tall buildings in the background.
