The Old Man was one of the year’s most successful and critically acclaimed new series. The FX on Hulu vengeance action-thriller had a record-breaking premiere in 2022, becoming the service’s highest-rated series premiere ever and positioning itself well for Emmy victory in 2023 (despite its release being outside the qualifying window). We wouldn’t be shocked to see Jeff Bridges add another statue to his collection to go with his Oscar.
In The Old Man, Bridges plays Dan Chase, a former CIA agent compelled to escape hiding when an old enemy comes out for retribution. John Lithgow plays Dan’s longtime buddy and FBI assistant director Harold Harper. Harper is in charge of the investigation into Dan’s whereabouts. The Old Man is a well-written and well-acted espionage thriller with lots of action and surprises that excite us for Season 2.
But what exactly will The Old Man Season 2 focus on?
The Plot of The Old Man
Action and suspense are at the heart of The Old Man. Dan Chase is a former CIA officer who subsists on his guide’s money in The Old Man’s first season. However, Dan Chase will be forced to flee when an assassin arrives on the scene.
While on the run, Dan Chase stays with Zoe McDonald, the woman he reluctantly joined forces with to defend the truth. Harold Harper, the head of the FBI, will be looking for Dan Chase, a highly skilled special operations contractor, who will hunt for the man responsible for his convoluted history with Harper agent Angela Adams and Agent Raymond Waters.

When will Season 2 of The Old Man release?
Shortly after airing the third episode of The Old Man on June 27, 2022, FX approved a second season. There is currently no set release date for The Old Man Season 2. However, we would love for the show to maintain its annual release schedule, placing Season 2 somewhere in the summer of 2023.
What will the season 2 of The Old Man be about?
Now that Dan and Harold are available again, the stakes have increased for The Old Man. These grizzled war veterans will need to hone their fighting skills. In the first episode of Season 2, The Old Man will likely focus on freeing Angela, who is still in captivity. Angela will find out some significant information since she has no idea that Hamzad is her father.
As a bonus, some information on Zoe is likely to be disclosed. Dan Sholtz has stated his desire to investigate Zoe’s background, suggesting there may be more to their meeting than meets the eye. While waiting for the big revelations, the audience may count on a few flashbacks to set the stage.
The Old Man Season 2 may instead depend more heavily on explanatory conversation and less on flashbacks. In an interview, executive producer Jon Steinberg gave a clue to this strategy, saying that the protagonists will return to where they spent a lot of time as children.
