The Amazon studio MGM has released a notice and a trigger warning alert before the release of the American film, Blink Twice. The thriller film is the directorial debut of Zoe Kravitz which is set to release on August 23, 2024.

The warning was shared via an X post that read, “Trigger warning: We are proud to finally share ‘Blink Twice’ with audiences in theatres worldwide this week. ‘Blink Twice’ is a psychological thriller about the abuse of power. While this is a fictionalized movie, it contains mature themes and depictions of violence — including sexual violence. This may be upsetting or triggering for some viewers. For resources that offer support, visit BlinkTwiceResources.com.”

According to the website, blinktwiceresources.com, which was listed on the MGM website, the film is rated R for “strong violence, sexual assault, drug use, and the language throughout.” Additionally, the site also provides information about the RAINN sexual assault hotline and the organisation “No More.” It added, “The film explores themes of sexual violence, power dynamics, and the complex experiences of sexual abuse survivors. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual violence — it is NOT your fault and you are NOT alone.”

In the film, Channing Tatum starred as a mysterious tech mogul who went on to invite Frida (Naomi Ackie) who is a cocktail waitress and her friend, Jess, to a vacation on a private island. However, unusual instances occur when Jess goes missing, and other island guests need to be reminded.

While the MPA rating issues trigger warnings, it alerts viewers of mature content like languages, voices, and nudity. It is especially surprising in the case of “Blink Twice”, a psychological thriller film that had secretive details which have kept vague with the Amazon materials.

Content advisories and trigger warnings are known as one of the growing trends in TV and movies as the production house tries to find a balance between plot twists and help users avoid trauma. In the years following the release of web series like Baby Reindeer and 13 Reasons Why, the directors and creators have given importance to issuing warnings to avoid any trauma for audiences.

The chief film critic, Owen Gleiberman, gave a positive review to the forthcoming film, Blink Twice. A line from his review read, “a post-#MeToo feminist party-girl nightmare thriller that’s been made with an unusual sense of intimacy.”
