Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities which provided viewers with a thrilling week of gruesome horror. Is Netflix going to renew the show? Cabinet of Curiosities is an anthology, much like Black Mirror and Love, Death, and Robots, that compiles a bunch of horror pieces created by some of the genere’s most talented directors.
The first season of the show was released over four days leading up to Halloween – 2 episodes a day. Since then, the show has proved its mettle by receiving seven Emmy nominations – one of the best by a Netflix show.
Despite the critical acclaim and the general acceptance, Netflix has not renewed the show, at least not yet. Guillermo del Toro is currently working on some other Netflix titles. This might be one of the reasons why the horror anthology hasn’t been renewed yet. Or it could be the numbers. Cabinet of Curiosities had 6.2 million completed views in its first week.

Over the following three weeks it got over 106 hours of play time. While it’s not unremarkable, we have seen shows with better numbers getting canceled. Nevertheless, the Emmy nominations will definitely add some weight to the shows candidature for a renewal.
There is no reason for Netflix not to reap more out of the anthology format. It comes with the great opportunity of getting the best out of multiple good directors. As far as the Cabinet of Curiosities goes, chances are that it will be renewed at some point. Guillermo del Toro himself has hinted at the possibility of more to come. In an interview with IndieWire, he revealed that he had already shortlisted directors for a potential second season, indicating his enthusiasm for continuing the series.
